Madhur Bhandarkar is a filmmaker celebrated for his realistic subjects and exceptional storytelling that seamlessly blends reality with fiction. Known for movies like Fashion and Chandni Bar, he has been a notable figure for various reasons over the past decade, ensuring there’s always something to discuss. In 2018, it was rumored that he would collaborate with none other than Shah Rukh Khan on an action-packed yet reality-grounded film. Titled Inspector Ghalib, the project became a hot topic. However, it didn’t materialize, and Bhandarkar later confirmed he had planned it. Recently, he opened up about whether the project might be revived in the future.
In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Madhur Bhandarkar spoke about the possibility of reviving Inspector Ghalib with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. He shared that the script is still with him and remains a cherished project. Reflecting on his plans, he described it as a compelling story about a police officer in Uttar Pradesh.
“Woh rakhi hai picture maine (I have kept that film). It was a very good script. I always wanted to make that film. It was a beautiful subject about a cop in UP; woh world accha tha (it was a good world). Woh hua nahi; baad me pandemic aa gaya (It didn’t happen; the pandemic came later), then we lost contact,” shared Madhur.
Bhandarkar added, “But definitely I’ll revisit it sometime. I would like to make that subject. It’s an action-packed film but in a real zone. It’s a very topical subject. I’ll work on it; I may revive it someday. One day, if I feel I should make Inspector Ghalib, definitely main banaunga (I will make it).”
Meanwhile, he also revealed his work on two other scripts. One focuses on a hard-hitting Mumbai story, described as a beautiful and intense narrative. The other is a fictional take on the lives of Bollywood wives, inspired by real-life stories with added fictional elements. “It’s not real life, but yeah, definitely it’s been inspired or derived from a lot of people. There will be fiction as well. I feel this is a very interesting subject, and I’ve had this title for a long time. Wives of Bollywood is like Page 3 on steroids. It’s a very different perspective of life and very contemporary,” he said.
