Soon to be seen in Mrs Deshpande, Madhuri Dixit-Nene has addressed the ever-ongoing debate of cinema vs OTT. Sharing her perspective on the matter, Madhuri also recalled about the Golden era of cinema and how Hum Aapke Hain Koun brought 32 family members together in theatres. Here's everything she mentioned during her recent media interaction...

‘The Golden era continues’

When Madhuri was asked her views on how the actresses of the 80s and 90s were rule-makers and rule-breakers of the industry, she told Bollywood Hungama, "Films were the only go-to entertainers at that time. People used to find us relatable. They used to connect with the characters we played and the music, songs, and dances - they were so beautiful. People still remember most of the songs and dance to it even decades later. Even the current generation is dancing to those songs. It is amazing. It's a golden era and continues in a different way. Now, there's OTT, cinema, YouTube, and Instagram - so many different ways you can get entertainment."

Agreeing that there was less distraction when she started off, Madhuri said, "Yes, the go-to was cinema. It was like a family outing where everybody used to go together. During Hum Aapke Hain Koun, 32 family members went together to watch the film. It was a different era, and now it's different."

Pointing out how films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Dil To Pagal Hai are lost in transition, Madhuri stated, "Now you know the target audience. You make a film and know what kind of audience will watch it. They calculate everything. I think films like those will be made and one doesn't take from the other."

"Cinema will always be the experience where everybody wants to go together and watch it. OTT will be more like in-home. Sit at home and watch it after your work has wrapped up. One won't take away from the other," the actress stated.

Reminding how people were forced to be under lockdown during COVID-19, Madhuri Dixit ended the debate by stating that now, with cinemas opening up, it is a choice.
