Actress Madhuri Dixit Nene launched India’s first and only Marathi OTT platform today and has announced her digital debut through the streamer. The streamer is named Planet Marathi and its objective is to increase opportunities for Marathi movies and shows and provide a platform for underrated Marathi filmmakers. The OTT platform will have its own original exclusive shows and will also include popular Marathi shows and movies.

The actress made her debut in the Marathi film industry with Tejas Vijay Deoskar's Bucket List in 2018. The comedy drama was well received and the story was appreciated for its feel good vibe. Now according to latest reports, she will be playing the lead role in a Marathi web series that will be released through Planet Marathi. No other details were revealed about this untitled project. The series is said to be a family suspense thriller.

The actress was last seen in the 2019 family drama Kalank in which she played Bahaar Begum, a court dancer who is the mother of a character played by Varun Dhawan.

In the event, Madhuri Dixit spoke shortly about the necessity of the platform in these trying times. She said, “There is so much potential in Marathi feature films and content that the world is yet to experience. This platform has made it easier for filmmakers to find and connect with their audience”. The platform also targets enthusiastic Marathi filmmakers who are currently at financial disadvantage because theatrical release often incurs cost as well as liability.

The Planet Marathi Original shows launched on the app include 'Sopa Nasata Kaahi', 'Hing Pustak Talwar', 'Bap Beep Bap', 'Jobless' and 'Parees'. Currently, the app has a media collective that will go beyond 1000 hours binge-watching and is attracting a lot of subscribers due to its economic subscription packages.
