In some jovial news for horror fans everywhere, Blumhouse Productions will release a series of horror films this October. Among these upcoming features is Madres, the directorial debut of Ryan Zaragoza.

What is Madres about?
Set in the 1970s, Madres revolves around the story of a Mexican-American couple Diana and Beto, expecting their firstborn child, who move into a small California town. Once there, they begin to experience mysterious and unsettling phenomena. Their increasing dismay is intensified when they are made aware of a strange curse that plagues the town. The film stars Tenoch Huerta and Ariana Guerra.

This year the films included in the horror anthology film series include Bingo Hell (October 1), Black as Night (October 1), Madres(October 8) and The Manor (October 8). In the previous year the number of films in the horror series were four as well- The Lie, Black Box, Evil Eye and Nocturne.

According to reports in slashfilm.com Zaragoza felt the character of Diana was a compelling one, vulnerable and strong at the same time. He talked about the hardships the pregnant character had to face being away from her old support system and in the midst of a strange new environment, as well as having horrific visions. He also reveals that he had also tried to explore the theme of cultural identity in the film as well.
