Tennis fans, assemble here! The world number 8 Andrey Rublev will compete against the world number 35 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the 2024 Madrid Open final today evening. This marks their sixth meeting in major tournaments. In their past encounters, Rublev has mostly emerged victorious with a 4-1 head-to-head advantage; the most recent being during the Rotterdam Open held early this year where he beat his competitor Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Having entered Madrid with a four-match losing streak as well as early exits in the Miami Open, Monte-Carlo Masters, and the Barcelona Open, Rublev was able to get back to his old self after he posted a brilliant victory over Facundo Bagnis at the second round. So brilliant was this victory that he went on to outclass Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Tallon Griekspoor en route to the quarterfinals.

On Saturday, Iga Swiatek won the women’s singles title at the 2024 Madrid Open after surprising many by defeating Aryna Sabalenka, thus making the final interesting. Swiatek emerged as the winner in a tightly contested 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) against Sabalenka. This win was also a form of compensation for Swiatek, having lost to Sabalenka in another nail-biting three-setter last year.
Though 25-year-old Aryna Sabalenka had a chance to tie with three Madrid Open titles, it was Iga Swiatek who turned the tables on her. This 20th title on the World Tennis Association (WTA) circuit marked an important milestone for Swiatek.
The 22nd edition of the Madrid Open was held at the Caja Mágica in Manzanares Park, Spain, spanning from April 24 to May 5, 2024.
