The makers of Mahaveeryar finally dropped the trailer of the much-anticipated time-travel fantasy starring Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali and Shanvi Srivastava. The team of the Abrid Shine directorial had its audio launch in Kochi on Friday, where they unveiled the movie’s intriguing trailer that was then shared online by several stars including Mohanlal.

The trailer gave the audience a glimpse into the characters of the film and also hinted at its plot, which involves the characters of Nivin and Asif taking each other on in court set in the contemporary time period.

The video leads with the court sequences with lawyers essayed by Lalu Alex and Vijay Menon representing their clients, who seem to travel through time to state their case, while the judge played by Siddique hears them out. We also get glimpses of Asif’s character of a warrior from the past, saying that he has been looking out for Nivin’s ascetic who seems to travel through time. We also see the beautiful period set pieces of the kingdom ruled by Lal’s character. The film has a stellar ensemble cast that also includes Mallika Sukumaran and Major Ravi.

In an earlier interaction with the press in Kochi, Asif had said that he was initially doubtful whether such a subject could be pulled off in Malayalam, but Abrid did justice to the theme of the film without any compromise. The movie’s story is by renowned writer M Mukundan, who had also said that it deals with several relevant topics in the current socio-political scenario and has been treated as a satire.

Mahaveeryar will mark Nivin’s first theatrical release since the pandemic. The movie, which is also co-produced by Nivin and shot extensively in Rajasthan, will go up against Fahadh Faasil’s Malayankunju that will hit theatres on July 22.
