Director Sethu’s upcoming movie Maheshum Marutiyum has a unique concept with the film’s story tied up with the journey of an old Maruti 800 with its protagonist Mahesh, played by Asif. However, the film’s teaser hinted that the movie, which also has Mamta Mohandas in the lead, is more than just about a car and a man.
The 50-second teaser, which dropped online on Thursday, revolved around a conversation between Mahesh and Mamta’s character Gauri, with the latter listing what a girl wishes for – “pleasing personality, sense of humour, security, love and care”. Asif’s character, however, tells her there’s still time for him to achieve all that, to which she asks him to try.
Its director Sethu had earlier revealed that the movie revolves around the two lead characters and a Maruti 800, which was the first car in the protagonist’s village and had his attention all through his formative years. This could also have led to him missing out on other people, especially the character essayed by Mamta in the movie. The decision he has to make leads him to a juncture where he has to choose between the girl or the car, which has been with him all through his life.
The movie, which is also scripted by Sachy, is produced by Maniyanpilla Raju and is expected to hit theatres in February. The film also has Varun Dhara, Vijay Babu, Dr Rony David Raj, Premkumar, Idavela Babu, Prashanth Alexander, Kunchan, Manu Raj and Divya in pivotal roles.
In an earlier interview with us, Mamta said, “What draws me to the film is that the history of Maruti 800 plays a big role in it. I won’t say that it’s about Maruti but it’s a fiction that stems from the car’s history, and that’s what makes it a character in the movie.”
