A new feather is added to the cap of Ranjan Ghosh. His film Mahishasur Marddini is nominated for the FIPRESCI Jury Award. Rituparna Sengupta played the protagonist, accompanied by Saswata Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, and others. It was released in 2022. Around 50 Indian films were selected for the award, and Mahishasur Marddini is one of them.
Rituparna took to her social media to share the news. She said, “Mahishashurmardini is nominated on a platform like FIPRESCI. This is a matter of success and pride for us. The statement this film makes is essential, and hence it will have an influence. I want the film to go to the list of the best and win the award.” She also thanked the producer for the film.
The film gave the message of a woman's resistance against the violence that perpetrated on them. Ranjan Ghosh worked for 10 years on this film. He explained why this film is shown in theatre festivals. “I submitted the film for film festivals last year. But since it is a blend of film and theatre, it is shown in the theatre festivals. This is the first time when an Indian film is shown in theatre festivals,” he said.
