Mai: Sakshi Tanwar reveals how she landed her first Netflix original web series

Popular actress Sakshi Tanwar will soon be seen in her first Netflix original web series titled Mai. The makers of the show recently dropped its gripping and intriguing trailer which has piqued the interest of the audiences. 

While speaking to IANS about how she landed the series, Sakshi revealed that she had auditioned for the show back in December 2019, via a mock shoot where she performed some of the most difficult scenes. She shared that it was mostly an impromptu expression of what she felt at the spot then. 

Sakshi further told the agency that she also did some intense workshops with the director Atul Mongia, in order to get an understanding of much in sync they were and what their collaboration and lead to. "Luckily, they thought I was a good fit for the character 'Sheel' and that's how I landed my first Netflix original series," she was quoted as saying by the publication. 

Sakshi will be seen playing the character of a middle-class mother who takes matters in her own hands to find her daughter's killers. Speaking about the evolution of a mother's character in cinema, the actress said that we've been used to seeing mothers on screen as loving and kind or strict and overbearing, but that is changing now, thanks to OTTs. 

The actress was quoted as saying, "The viewers are now seeing the various facets and dimensions of the motherhood experience especially after the advent of OTT." She further added that it's a great time to be an actor and to have the opportunit to play such layered characters as now they truly get to explore every aspect of a mother's character that was hidden for a long time. 

The series, which is co-helmed by Anshai Lal and Atul Mongia will be available to stream on Netflix from April 15.
