Mai is gearing up for its release on OTT soon. The series will see Sakshi Tanwar don the role of a vengeful mother, while Wamiqa Gabbi stars as her ill-fated daughter. Gabbi recently opened up about working on the show and the ‘emotional toll’ the role took on the actress.

In conversation with news agency IANS, Gabbi recalled a moment where she had broken down while filming for an ‘intense’ scene in the show. The director had been surprised when the actress continued to cry even after he had said ‘cut’, and had rushed to check on her.

“I don't know whether it was exhaustion of the past many months or simply my emotions, but I couldn't stop crying,” shared the actress.

The actress also talked about how she felt some scenes in films and shows can leave a very ‘deep impact’ on people, and the scene in Mai she referred to was one of them. But despite the challenges, Gabbi felt that it was necessary that such scenes be included in the film or show. They were important and had to be shown to audiences as the actress felt they showed the ‘hardcore reality’ of life. Such sequences also helped educate people on the things they lacked awareness on and Gabbi said she was hopeful that they would have a very big impact in the long run.

The upcoming thriller series revolves around the story of a woman in her late 40s named Sheel whose daughter gets suddenly and brutally killed. Sheel takes it upon herself to find out the truth about her daughter’s death, leading her down a dark road of crime and dirty politics.

Sakshi Tanwar stars as Sheel while Gabbi essays the role of her daughter. The series also features Raima Sen,Vivek Mushran, Prashant Narayanan and Seema Pahwa. Atul Mongia is the showrunner and has also directed a few episodes.

The series is produced under the banner of Clean Slate Filmz, the production company founded by Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Ssharma.

Mai will be available for streaming on Netflix from April 15 onwards.
