After being available for rent for about two weeks, Prime Video is finally streaming Maidaan for all subscribers. The film, starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role, had its big screen release on April 12, 2024, and has made its way to OTT after nearly two months of its theatrical run. Although it didn't create an impressive mark at the box office, Maidaan did go on to impress the viewers who watched the film on the big screen. We have to wait and watch how the film performs, as it's now out on Prime Video.
Maidaan is based on the life of the finest football coach in India, who was active from 1952 until 1962. His dedication and enthusiasm are the key points. Coach Syed Abdul Rahim (played by Ajay Devgn) overcomes systemic obstacles to assemble a championship-calibre squad. Regardless, he guided the squad to Olympic and Asian Games glory in 1956. His story is one of indomitable spirit and triumph over insurmountable obstacles.
Maidaan also stars Priyamani as Ajay's onscreen wife, Saira Rahim, and Gajraj Rao plays Roy Chaudhary. Other actors in pivotal roles include Devyansh Tripathi, Rishab Joshi, Nitanshi Goel, Aayesha Vindhara, Meenal Patel, Rudranil Ghosh, Baharul Islam, Zaheer Mirza, Madhur Mittal, Chaitanya Sharma, Tejas Ravishankar, Davinder Gill, Amartya Ray, Sushant Waydande, Abhilash Thapliyal, Manandeep Singh, Vishnu G Varrier, Raphael Jose, Jayanth V., Aaman Munshi, Sai Kishore, Amandeep Thakur, Tanmay Bhattacharjee, Arko Das, Prajwal Maski, and Vijay Maurya, among others.
AR Rahman created the score, and Manoj Muntashir wrote the lyrics for the film.
The COVID-19 pandemic and Cyclone Nisarga caused significant delays to the principal photography, which began on August 19, 2019, and finally ended in May 2022. The impending post-production work delayed the film's theatrical release until June 3, 2022. They once again pushed back the film's release date to June 23, 2023.
The box office total for Maidaan, Ajay Devgn's second film of the year, surpassed Rs 50 crore a month after its release. After starting the year strong with Shaitaan—a film that earned over Rs 150 crore—the actor's fortunes took a turn for the worse with his second film.
Maidaan made Rs 28.35 crore in its prolonged first week. The film reportedly made Rs. 10.25 crore in the second week, Rs. 7.3 crore in the third, and Rs. 40 lakh on May 10, the final day of the fourth week, to surpass Rs. 50 crore, according to Sacnilk. The film's total earnings reached Rs. 50.20 crore after adding approximately Rs. 4.6 crore in the fourth week.
