As the trailer of his upcoming web film Maja Ma is released, director Anand Tiwari decoded the core of the story with us. Tiwari, who has helmed projects such as Love per Square Foot, Bang Baaja Baarat and Bandish Bandits in the past, talked about his interest in stories related to dysfunctionality in families and why he finds them 'relatable'.

The story of Maja Ma revolves around a middle-class Gujarati family, a wedding and how a dark secret of the lady of the house suddenly surfaced bringing a perfect picture upside down.

Talking about preparing for the show as a director, Anand Tiwari said, "The story idea came to us and I and Amrit are very proud of the fact that we developed it into a film; because it is a story that we believe, every family, across age-group and culture can relate with, there is a sense of dysfunctionality in every family and that makes the story real, relatable. I come from UP, Amrit ( Amritpal Singh Bindra, producer ) comes from Punjab. We love creating family entertainers and dysfunctionality is one of the subjects that we really enjoy exploring. We did that in our earlier show Bandit Bandhish as well. We are always interested to tell the behind the curtain story of a family. In our Maja Ma, we explored that but in a fully entertaining manner. We have dance, music and our dancing diva Madhuri ji."

Adding to that, Amritpal Singh Bindra shared how difficult it was for him and the whole crew to shoot the film because they worked on the production just after the second lockdown got over and life had just started to return to normalcy.

"Initially, when we got the story idea, we thought of making it into a web series but through scripting, we realised that it would be great to make a family entertainer film. But our challenges started after that, because the pandemic was still on. When we thought of the casting, we are grateful to Gajraj Rao, Barkha and Ritwik for coming on board easily. They are always standing by us for all our projects. We are also thankful to Amazon Prime because we have worked together earlier and reuniting with them was like coming back home," shared Amrit.

Written by Sumit Batheja, Maja Ma, starring Madhuri Dixit, Gajraj Rao, Barkha Singh, Sheeba Chaddha, Ritwik Bhowmik, Srishti Shrivastava, and Rajit Kapoor, will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 6, 2022.
