The festive season, which begins with Ganesha Chaturthi and goes on all the way till Christmas is upon us. And with things easing back to normalcy in the post-pandemic era, festivals also mean a plethora of big-ticket film releases. September has a handful of Kannada releases in the run-up to Dasara. While early October is still a level playing field with several windows still open to be grabbed, the Deepavali season has got a few takers already. Here’s a look at some of the major Kannada films that are coming to theatres in the next few weeks…
Lucky Man
Release date: September 9
Nagendra Prasad’s directorial debut is the Kannada remake of the Tamil hit Oh My Kadavule. The film has Darling Krishna, Sangeetha Sringeri and Roshni Prakash in the lead, with the late Puneeth Rajkumar in a pivotal role as ‘god’.
Monsoon Raaga
Release date: September 16
Dhananjaya’s film has finalized its release date after two earlier attempts. The film, which also stars Rachita Ram, Suhasini Maniratnam and Achyuth Kumar is the Kannada remake of the Telugu film C/O Kancharapalem.
Guru Shishyaru
Release date: September 23
The Jadeesha K Hampi directorial is a period film set in 1995, in which lead actor Sharan, who is also the producer, plays a physical education teacher, who sets out to coach a bunch of youngsters in kho kho.
Kantara
Release date: September 30
Rishab Shetty’s first directorial since Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shaale, Kantara is highly anticipated because it is backed by KGF makers Hombale Films. The film has Rishab in the lead, along with Sapthami Gowda and Kishore, among others.
Thotapuri
Release date: September 30
Director Vijayaprasad’s second film with Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh, after Neerdose, this two-part film will have its first chapter out for Dasara. The film also stars Aditi Prabhudeva, Dhananjaya, Suman Ranganath, Veena Sundar, among others, in pivotal roles.
Head Bush
Release date: October 21
Daali Dhananjaya’s second production venture after Badava Rascal, the three-part Head Bush will see its first instalment in theatres on October 21. The film is the biopic of Bengaluru’s first gangster MP Jayaraj and has Dhananjaya playing him.
Gandhada Gudi
Release date: October 28
On the eve of the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s first death anniversary, his dream project, the docu-feature Gandhada Gudi will be in theatres. Puneeth had collaborated with Wild Karnataka maker Amoghavarsha to capture the forests of Karnataka in this feature.
Banaras
Release date: November 4
The Jayathirtha Jayanna directorial is the launchpad of Zaid Khan, the son of Politian Zameer Ahmed Khan. The film, which also stars Sonal Monteiro, is an intense love story set in Varanasi.
Dilpasand
Release date: November 11
Darling Krishna’s next release for the year is director Shiva Tejas’ Dilpasand. A romantic comedy, the film pairs Krishna with Nishvika Naidu and Megha Shetty.
Raymo
Release date: November 25 (tentative)
Director Pavan Wadeyar’s romantic drama has Ishan CV and Ashika Ranganath in the lead. A musical, the story follows the love story between a rockstar and a classical musician.
Vedha
Release date: December 24
Century Star Shiva Rajkumar’s fourth collaboration with choreographer-director A Harsha is getting a Christmas release. This will be the actor’s first home production.
Baana Daariyalli
Release date: December 24
Director Preetham Gubbi’s latest collaboration with Golden Star Ganesh pairs the actor with Rukmini Vasanth and Reeshma Nanaiah.
Dhruva Sarja’s Martin, which was earlier announced as a September 30 release and was then pushed ahead, could still eye a 2022 release, as will Challenging Star Darshan’s Kranti.
