Major, the biopic of Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the army man behind the heroic rescue act during the 26/11 Mumbai blasts, has always been a dream project for its actor-writer Adivi Sesh. The fact that big names like Mahesh Babu and Sony Entertainment were associated with it, came in as a huge boost for the project. Moreover, this is the first-ever pan-Indian film in the career of its lead actor, made simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, besides being dubbed in Malayalam.
Now, the makers of Major have announced that the film's release date has been pushed from May 27 to June 3. While the larger belief is that the release postponement was to avert a clash with a biggie like F3, there seems to be an entirely different reason behind the delay. Reportedly, the producers of Major weren't exactly happy with the final copy and asked for several changes, which required a reshoot of over 30 days.
While Major's principal shoot was wrapped earlier this year and Adivi Sesh had even finished dubbing for his portions, these reports about the reshoot have come as a surprise. This is the first significant project taken up by Sony Entertainment in the South market and apparently, they don't want to leave anything to chance with the multilingual. However, reshoots have become more commonplace lately for most biggies, for producers want to be safe than sorry.
The new release date for Major also means that it would have to clash with Kamal Haasan's Vikram in Telugu . However, given that Kamal Haasan's market in Telugu states has shrunk over the years, the clash may not affect the film much in the Telugu version. Major, directed by Sashikiran Tikka, has music by Sricharan Pakala and also stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar.
