Malavika Mohanan has arrived in Chennai for the shoot of her much-awaited next, Thangalaan. The film, helmed by Pa Ranjith, stars Vikram, Parvathy Thirvothu and Malavika Mohanan in the lead. Pasupathy is said to be playing a crucial role in it. The shoot for the film is in full swing. Vikram has been constantly dropping updates from the location where he is seen along with the rest of the cast. He had dropped a video from Hogenakkal where the team is seen chilling in the water after a hard day at work.

The plot is set in Kolar Gold Field in the pre-independence era. Ranjith had revealed in an interview he had the idea of Thangalaan many years back but after KGF released he had to wait and see if the films were similar. But when he found out that the film was entirely different, he decided to go ahead. It is said that the story of Thangalaan is said to be based on a real-life incident.

Music for the film is by GV Prakash and the composer had recently shared an update about the film's album. He had written, "Super excited about the way #thangalaan audio is coming. Finished Recording two songs. Come out with an international tribal mix of audio which is unique for me. I haven't tried it before .Super excited.”

The film is being bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green banner and is made on a large scale. It will be released in multiple languages and as a pan-India project. The digital rights of the film have already been bagged by Netflix and the news was announced on the occasion of Pongal. The platform announced that the film will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi post its theatrical release, which is said to be in the second half of the year.
