Malayalam actress Saranya Sasi passes away at 35 after battling cancer for a decade

Popular Malayalam film and television actress Saranya Sasi breathed her last today at noon at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Saranya Sasi has been battling cancer for the last ten years. The actress is 35 years old. She passed away after fighting a decade long battle with brain tumour and underwent 11 major surgeries. She was admitted to the hospital again recently after contracting Covid-19. She was admitted because of pneumonia and low sodium levels. Her health further deteriorated and she died at noon at the hospital.
Actress Seema G. Nair took great care of Saranya and spearheaded a social media charity collective for Saranya. They also managed to build her a house with their donations. Seema broke the news on social media about the demise, adding, “An end to all the efforts and prayers, she is gone”.
Saranya and her struggle with the disease were always at the centre of media attention. After being diagnosed with cancer, Saranya faced a severe financial crisis owing to her consecutive major operations. At a point of time, she was requesting fans and welfare organisations for financial assistance.
Saranya made her debut in the Malayalam industry with the Balachandra Menon-directed Sooryodayam on Doordarshan. She was well-received by audiences and soon made her film debut. Her first movie was Chacko Randaman but she earned widespread attention as the sister of Vasco in Chotta Mumbai. Mohanlal played the role of Vasco and Chotta Mumbai became a blockbuster.
Even after the treatments started to wear her down, Saranya continued to do television soaps. However, in a matter of time, her health condition worsened and she had gained weight. Friends and relatives close to Saranya say that she still believed that she could make a comeback.
