Mnet's MAMA 2023 Awards, one of the most significant and highly anticipated music award ceremonies of the year, recently unveiled its nominations across various categories, acknowledging the outstanding contributions of K-pop groups, South Korean soloists, and numerous other Asian-based artists over the past year. However, given the sheer number of talented idols in the K-pop industry, it was unsurprising that many exceptional artists were overlooked in certain categories.
Fans were especially vocal about their disappointment, feeling that some deserving idols were "robbed" and unfairly snubbed despite their significant achievements.
Even the world-famous group BTS, which secured numerous nominations, saw notable omissions in the form of the eldest member, Jin, and their leader, RM. Many fans believed that the solo releases of all group members deserved recognition.
Additionally, some other major acts were conspicuously absent from the primary nominations. Although many of them were included in the "Worldwide Fans' Choice" category, fans argued that their impact on K-Pop warranted greater acknowledgement.
For instance, ATEEZ, known as the "Performance Kings," had released a substantial amount of music over the past year and embarked on a global tour, performing for thousands of fans in numerous countries. Consequently, fans were shocked and disappointed by the group's absence in major performance-related categories.
Similarly, another group that caught the attention of netizens for its omission was ENHYPEN. Fans couldn't help but express their surprise and frustration, especially considering the number of HYBE groups nominated in the awards.
Among the other artists overlooked were ITZY, NMIXX, Xdinary Heroes and Kep1er. Fans particularly noted the absence of the usual band category.
Fans strongly contend that some of these talented artists have indeed shined and are well-deserving of nominations in more prominent award categories.
