After a long gap of 17 years, Mammootty’s CBI Sethurama Iyer is all set to return to the big screens with K Madhu’s CBI 5: The Brain. The team of the film has completed its dubbing and is now gearing up for its release.
Mammootty took to his social media page on Monday to announce that the trailer of the much-awaited film will be released online at 6pm on March 6. The makers have been teasing Mammootty fans since the movie went on floors last year, with several behind-the-scenes stills as well as images of the iconic character in his signature poses.
The upcoming, which is also scripted by SN Swamy, is the fifth instalment in the franchise that turned 34 this year. The previous film, Nerariyan CBI, hit theatres in 2005. Apart from Mammootty reprising his role as Sethurama Iyer, CBI 5 will also have Jagathy Sreekumar and Mukesh returning to play their roles as Vikram and Chacko, respectively. This will also mark Jagathy’s comeback after being paralysed following a car accident a decade ago.
New cast additions of the investigative thriller include Soubin Shahir, Ramesh Pisharody, Kaniha, Asha Sharath, Renji Panicker, Sai Kumar, Malavika Menon and Dileesh Pothan, who plays the role of Kerala chief minister in the movie that is set to be an Eid release. CBI 5 will be taking on Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Jana Gana Mana, Suresh Gopi’s Paappan and Jayaram’s Makal when it hits theatres on April 28.
Meanwhile, Mammootty also has a direct-to-OTT release in debutant Ratheena PT’s Puzhu coming up. The Sony LIV release, which also has Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead, is an intense family crime-thriller that revolves around the dynamics between a father and a son, who have trust issues. The movie is expected to drop on the streaming platform in May.
