We are nearly three weeks into January 2026, but Malayalam cinema is yet to see any major releases so far this year. But all that changes this week, as Chatha Pacha is set to make a splash at the cinema with its WWE wrestling-inspired tale. One of the most-anticipated aspects of the upcoming Malayalam film is the rumoured cameo of megastar Mammootty. Though makers have not officially confirmed whether the veteran would be seen as Walter, Mammootty spilled the beans on his Chatha Pacha role.
What is Mammootty’s role in Chatha Pacha
The 2026 Malayalam film Chatha Pacha revolves around an underground wrestling ring in Mattanchery. Mammootty is said to make a cameo appearance, as a coach, Walter, in the upcoming film, helmed by Adhvaith Nayar. In a recent event held in Dubai, anchor Ranjini Haridas broached the topic of Chatha Pacha, saying, “Heard that some of Walter’s kids are coming to Kochi.”
Responding to this, Mammootty said, “It is not Walter’s kids. But aren’t they the kids from Mattancherry. Will be out on January 22 - Chatha Pacha.”
The recently released Chatha Pacha trailer spoke about that no one would dare touch Walter's kids, and showed an artiste turned against the camera. With the buildup given for the character, fans are convinced that Mammootty would appear as Walter.
Mammootty did not divulge any more details, but fans are excited to see the Bramayugam actor confirming his role in the film, starring actors Arjun Ashokan, Roshan Mathew, Vishak Nair, and Ishan Shoukath. Senior actor Siddique and influencer-actor Lakshmi Menon are also part of the cast.

When will Chatha Pacha release
The upcoming Malayalam film Chatha Pacha will release in theatres on January 22, 2026 (Thursday). The film will release across 250 screens in Kerala, and the first shows in Kerala will begin at 10 am. The bookings will start at 4.30 pm on January 19, as per online trackers.
The film will clash at the box office with Nivin Pauly’s thriller movie Baby Girl, which will be out a day later on January 23.
Mammootty’s first release of 2026 is likely to be the multi-starrer movie Patriot in April, also featuring Mohanlal. His last film Kalamkaval released on SonyLiv (via OTTplay Premium) on January 15
