Veteran filmmaker Fazil, who has helmed some of Malayalam cinema’s greatest hits including Ente Sooryaputhrikku, Pappayude Swantham Appoos, Manichitrathazhu and Aniyathipravu, is reportedly gearing up for his swansong with the sequel of Mammootty and Mohanlal’s 1998 superhit Harikrishnans.

Apart from Twenty-20, Harikrishnans, which was also helmed by Fazil, was the only other movie that had Mohanlal and Mammootty together in full-length roles in the past 25 years.

According to reports, Fazil has begun work on the script of Harikrishnans 2 – which will have the duo returning as lawyers to defend another intriguing case. Juhi Chawla, Kunchacko Boban, Shamili and Rajiv Menon had played pivotal roles in the previous movie. While it’s unclear how many of them will be reprising their characters for the upcoming movie, if the reports are true, Fahadh Faasil is an actor who has been rumoured to play a pivotal character in the sequel.

Incidentally, Fahadh’s first onscreen gig as a child actor was for Fazil’s Mammootty-starrer Pappayude Swantham Appoos and the actor’s debut film Kaiyethum Doorathu, which was also helmed by the veteran filmmaker, had Mammootty in an extended cameo. Fahadh is yet to share screen space with Mohanlal, though they had both starred in Red Wine. The actor is rumoured to also be in talks with a Mohanlal-starrer, which is based on the infamous Chelembra bank robbery.

Meanwhile, Fazil had produced Fahadh’s latest movie Malayankunju, which is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The film, which marked the director’s return as a producer, revolves around a man who is trapped 40-feet below after a landslide and how his tryst for survival changes him as a person.

Fahadh, who has also completed shooting for Akhil Sathyan’s Pachuvum Athbhuthavilakkum, has also signed Villali Veeran director Sudheesh Sankar’s upcoming realistic thriller, which is set to go on floors in November.
