There’s a Mammootty and Mohanlal battle on the cards this February! For the first time since the pandemic, the duo’s movies will be releasing together in theatres, offering a varied experience for the fans they will be catering to.

Mammootty, who has had a stellar 2022, will be looking to continue that golden run with director B Unnikrishnan’s investigative thriller Christopher in February. While the makers are yet to officially announce the release date of the film, reports suggest that the film will lock horns with Mohanlal’s Spadikam 4K version that will be re-released in theatres on February 9.

Christopher has Mammootty essaying the role of a police officer, who has to spearhead an investigation about a series of crimes carried out by a ruthless killer. The latter also plays mind games with the cop, making it all the more challenging for him. Apart from Mammootty, the big budget movie also has Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha, Dileesh Pothan, Jinu Joseph, Shine Tom Chacko and Vinay Rai as part of its cast. Pulimurugan and Madhuraraja writer Udaykrishna has written the script for the film.

Incidentally, Mohanlal was first offered Christopher during the first pandemic lockdown, back in 2020. The star had turned it down owing to the restrictions that were in place during the time to shoot such a big project. Instead, he decided to collaborate with Unnikrishnan and Udaykrishna for Aaraattu, which didn’t fare well at the box office.

Meanwhile, the remastered version of Spadikam, which first released in 1995, is aimed at the younger generation who didn’t have the opportunity to watch one of Mohanlal’s all-time superhits on the big screen. The film’s director Bhadran said that the 4K version will also feature a few new shots and is sure to present an enjoyable experience in theatres with its Dolby Atmos Surround Sound as well as visuals.

Both Mohanlal and Mammootty will have a release each before February 4, with Alone set to hit theatres on January 26 and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakakam releasing on January 19.
