Mammootty is gearing up for the release of Puzhu, which will be his first movie releasing directly on an OTT platform. The actor has now talked about the positives of OTT, calling it an advantage for cinema.
Talking in an interview with The Cue Studio, the actor said, “I think it is an advantage for cinema. There is a section of the audience who did not see cinema as cinema or find time to go watch it in theatres. So OTT is bringing us an audience that was silent or were not available till now. This is a very positive thing for OTT. Even movies that come out of its theatrical run are getting a new audience with OTT because they can watch it at their own time and leisure.”
The actor also added that another big advantage is that movies can now reach and be available for people who might not even understand the language.
“Puzhu is coming out in five languages and this means people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari are watching our films,” he said. “We watch Korean films, but do we know the Korean language? So when the time comes that we can enjoy movies with subtitles, our films will be seen by others.” he added.
Directed by Ratheena PT, Puzhu is also the first time the actor is working with a female director in a career of over five decades. The actor will also play a character with a darker share in a story that tells a father-son relationship.
The movie also features Parvathy Thiruvothu in an important role and has music by Jakes Bejoy. The thriller is set to start streaming on Sony LIV on May 13.
