One of the most impressive feats Mammootty has achieved even at the peak of his career, is giving first time directors their debut film. The actor is giving yet another director their debut with Ratheena PT’s Puzhu. This is also the first time the actor is working with a female director in a career spanning over five decades, and has now talked about it.
In an interview with The Cue Studio, the actor was asked if there is any difference in the gender perspectives within the film considering it is a female filmmaker. “We just say director and there is no need to say directress or woman director. Be it a man or a woman, it is a director. We can’t forfend anyone from any job on the basis of gender. It is important to be a human first.”
Mammootty will be seen playing a former IPS officer in the movie, which will explore his relationship with his son. The thriller’s trailer has piqued the interest of the fans. Mammootty will also essay a character with a darker shade in the movie, something he has previously pulled off with aplomb.
Puzhu will also mark Mammootty’s first movie to get a direct OTT release. The movie is coming to Sony LIV, which has now released a number of Malayalam movies such as Tovino Thomas’ Kaanekkaane, Shane Nigam and Revathy’s Bhoothakalam, Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute and Saiju Kurup starrer Anthakshari.
Puzhu, which also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu in an important role, is written by Harshad, Sharfu and Suhas. With music composed by Jakes Bejoy, the movie is set to start streaming on Sony LIV from May 13.
