Mammootty and Lijo Jose Pellissery are all set to team up for a segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology, which is based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s memoir Kadugannawa Oru Yathra.

The short story, which revolves around tracing the roots of a Sinhalese girl that the writer had met when he was young, was based on a journey of Nair in Sri Lanka while he had attended an international conference. Mammootty will play the role inspired by Nair in the segment, which is set to begin shooting soon.

The movie titled Kadugannawa Oru Yathra will be shot in Kerala and Sri Lanka, and the makers are planning to complete the shoot by the end of this year. Lijo’s segment will be one among the 10 in the anthology.

Currently, Santosh Sivan has completed his segment, which has Siddique in the lead. Priyadarshan will reportedly helm two featurettes – one with Biju Menon and based on Shilalikhithangal. The shooting of this project is currently progressing in Pattambi. Priyadarshan will also direct Mohanlal in another segment, which is based on Nair’s short story Olavum Theeravum.

The fifth featurette that has been announced will be directed by Jayaraj and has Indrans, Renji Panicker, Surabhi Lakshmi, Kailash and Nedumudi Venu as part of the cast. Jayaraj’s episode will be based on the Swargam Thurakunna Samayam short story that won Nair the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1986.

Earlier, Santosh Sivan had confirmed to us that Nair wanted only directors who haven’t helmed any of movies before to helm the projects in the Netflix anthology. This will be the second major Malayalam release on the streaming platform after Tovino Thomas’ Minnal Murali, which is scheduled to drop on Netflix on December 24.
