The makers of Mammootty’s upcoming investigative thriller Christopher took to social media to confirm the long-rumoured release date of the movie, helmed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Udayakrishna.

The film, which has a host of actors apart from the megastar, was cleared by the censor board with an ‘U/A’ certificate on Wednesday, and Mammootty announced through his social media handles that it will be releasing in theatres worldwide on February 9.

Truth Global Films, which has been the overseas distributor for Mammootty’s recent few movies including Rorschach and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, will kick off the film’s promotions in Dubai with its global launch on February 3 at the Arabian Centre. Mammootty, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha and Unnikrishnan are expected to be part of the event, which will kick off at 6pm.

The film also has Amala Paul, Dileesh Pothan, Shine Tom Chacko, Sarath Kumar, Jinu Joseph and Tamil actor Vinay Rai, who will be essaying the role of its antagonist. Christopher has Mammootty playing the titular role of a veteran police officer, who is tasked with leading an investigation team. The crimes, however, also has a personal connect with the officer.

Christopher is the second Unnikrishnan directorial, Mammootty was part of, after Pramani. Udaykrishna had previously scripted Mammootty’s Pokkiri Raja, Madhuraraja and Masterpiece. This movie, however, seems to follow a different track, with the writer-director combo rewriting it, following the box office failure of their last venture together – Aaraattu. Incidentally, Christopher was initially pitched to Mohanlal, but the superstar decided to go ahead with Aaraattu instead, as it was tough to execute a project in a massive scale while the pandemic restrictions were in place towards the end of 2020.

Meanwhile, Mammootty will also be seen playing a cop in director Roby Varghese Raj’s upcoming film, which is tentatively titled Kannur Squad. The film is produced by Mammootty Kampany.
