After owning 2022 in Mollywood, megastar Mammootty will kick off 2023 with cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj’s directorial debut. The yet-to-be-titled movie, which is touted to be an investigative thriller, has the megastar essaying the role of a cop.

The film, which will be produced by Mammootty Kampany, is set to go on floors on December 27 in Pala, with the megastar expected to join the team on January 1, 2023. Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam fame Manoj, who also plays a pivotal role in Kunchacko Boban’s Pakalum Paathiravum, is also part of the cast, which includes Deepak Parambol. The team is yet to confirm the lead actress of the film.

The movie will have Mammootty once again playing a cop, after B Unnikrishnan’s Christopher, which is also expected to hit theatres in January 2023. The thriller, which is scripted by Udaykrishna, also has Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha, Shine Tom Chacko and Vinay Rai in pivotal roles.

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which premiered at IFFK and received overwhelming reviews, will be the megastar’s next theatrical release. The film is rumoured to be eyeing a January 6 release date.

Mammootty has currently wrapped up the shoot of Jeo Baby’s Kaathal: The Core, Surender Reddy’s Telugu action thriller Agent and Ranjith’s feature in the Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories.

Meanwhile, the actor has had a stellar 2022 with some of the biggest hits in his career. He began the year with Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam, which is the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of 2022. He followed it up with CBI 5: The Brain and then with his OTT debut Puzhu, which is currently streaming on Sony LIV. The actor also had Nissam Basheer’s Rorschach, which is available on Disney+ Hotstar.

In 2023, he has also signed up a ‘mass’ thriller with scriptwriter Kaloor Deenis’ son Deeno Dennis that will be shot in Bengaluru and Kochi.
