Malayalam megastar Mammootty ended 2025 on a high with his movie Kalamkaval, scoring the veteran actor’s lone hit of the year. The megastar has a bunch of exciting movies lined up for the year ahead, including director Nithish Sahadev’s upcoming Malayalam film. Nitish, best known for films such as Falimy, revealed that the Malayalam film would feature Mammootty in a local gangster role and would start pre-production this week itself.
What’s Mammootty-Nithish Sahadev film about
Malayalam filmmaker Nithish Sahadev is set to director Mammootty in one of his upcoming films. In a recent interview with The Cue Studio, Nithish revealed that his film would be set along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border with Mammootty appearing in the role of a local gangster. The film, which is set up as a mass action entertainer, will go into pre-production from January 14, 2026. The shoot, however, would begin after Mammootty wraps up his film with the auteur filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan.
The megastar’s gangster is likely to be play on the Trivandrum dialect, which he had used to good use in the 2005 hit film Rajamanikyam.
The update about Mammootty’s role in the Nithish Sahadev film has excited the fans, who are keen to see how this collaboration would pan out. Nithish is known for Basil Joseph’s comedy drama film Falimy, bringing out the story of a dysfunctional family with a humorous tale.
However, Nithish’s upcoming release is the Tamil film, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, which is set to hit theatres on January 30, 2026. Actor Jiiva plays the lead role in Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil. Another Tamil film, Gandhi Talks, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Aditi Rao Hydari, will release on January 30.
