Ever since director Lijo Jose Pellissery announced that he was collaborating with Mohanlal for a big-budget project titled Malaikottai Vaaliban, several took to Twitter to ask him why he didn’t do that with Mammootty. The BheeshmaParvam actor and Churuli director had instead chosen a limited budget film, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, made on a small canvas as their first collaboration together.
Talking to a press meet in Kochi ahead of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’s release on January 19, Mammootty clarified why they decided to go ahead with this project first.
The megastar said that Lijo had, in fact, pitched two big-budget projects that will be mounted on a big canvas. But it just so happens that they decided to choose Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam first, he said. But that doesn’t mean that the other two films are dropped.
In fact, Mammootty and Lijo will next be collaborating soon for one of these projects, according to reports. Rumours are also rife that Mammootty, who has been part of films such as Bheeshmaparvam, Puzhu, Rorschach and CBI 5: The Brain last year, will begin shooting for Amal Neerad’s much-anticipated Bilal by the end of this year.
Mammootty, who is also producing Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, had said that the film was shot in 35 days in a village in Palani. He also described Lijo’s working process as “effortless” as he doesn’t let the actors feel any strain, but instead lets them do what they can to the best of their abilities.
Meanwhile, Lijo has begun filming Mohanlal’s Malaikottai Vaaliban in Rajasthan. The filmmaker couldn’t attend the press meet due to the shoot of the film, which also has Marathi actress Sonalee Kulkarni, Rajpal Yadav and Danish Sait as part of the cast. The movie, which is touted to have Mohanlal as a wrestler, is scripted by PS Rafeeque. Mohanlal is expected to join the team soon.
