Even before Mammootty’s Kaathal – The Core opened to rave reviews, fans were excited about the megastar’s upcoming project Bramayugam, which could be his next theatrical release if everything goes according to plan.

The first look poster of the movie, which was unveiled on Mammootty’s birthday in September, teased the actor in a character that many had rumoured to be a dark magician, considering the setting of Bramayugam that revolves around an ancestral house and its inhabitants.

Mammootty’s Bramayugam is set in the 16th century

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the film’s director Rahul Sadasivan, who had previously helmed the horror-thriller Bhoothakaalam, dismisses reports that the film deals with dark arts and is similar to Adharvam, which had the megastar playing a black magician.

“There’s nothing like that; no dark magic or anything. Those were rumours that surfaced when we began shooting the movie, but we didn’t want to confirm or deny,” says Rahul, explaining that he doesn’t want to reveal anything more about the movie.

It was also rumoured that the film will hit theatres in February 2024. The filmmaker, however, says, “We are currently in its post-production stage. We will be finalising all those details after the edit is over.”

The director, however, explains that despite its 16th century setting, it won’t have too much CGI that could delay the post production. “We won’t be depending too much on VFX. We had shot literally everything you will see in the movie,” he reveals.

Apart from Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan and Amalda Liz play the other central characters in the film that was shot in and around Kochi and Ottapalam in Palakkad. Earlier, it was also rumoured that the veteran superstar will be playing the antagonist in the film.
