Following the success of Kannur Squad, Mammootty is now ready for his next release! His family drama Kaathal - The Core was initially scheduled to release in the theatres a few months ago. Then, there were rumours that the film might be released directly on an OTT platform. According to latest reports, the Jeo Baby-directed movie, which also stars Jyothika, is all set to premiere at the Goa International Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place in November 2023. After the premiere, Kaathal is expected to release in cinemas on November 30.
Mammootty on Kaathal’s delayed release
In an interview with Asianet News during the promotions for Kannur Squad, Mammootty revealed that Kaathal will be released soon. He explained that the delay was due to other big releases, as Kaathal is a small film. According to the Malayalam superstar, while the theme of the film revolves around family, the incidents portrayed in it are not typical of everyday family life.
The Mammootty-Jyothika film is likely to deal with a socially relevant theme
Kaathal marks Jyothika’s first onscreen collaboration with Mammootty. Meanwhile, Jeo is known for his previous film, The Great Indian Kitchen, which got a wider attention due to the socially relevant theme it handled. The critically acclaimed film dealt with the oppression faced by women and patriarchal values. When it comes to Kaathal, the filmmaker is expected to treat socially relevant themes similar to his previous projects.
Kaathal’s cast and crew
The film, scripted by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Zakaria, features Lalu Alex, Muthumani, and Chinnu Chandini in supporting roles. Salu Thomas is the film’s cinematographer, while Francis Lewis has handled editing. The music is composed by Mathews Pulikan, and the lyrics are penned by Anwar Ali.
Mammootty’s upcoming projects
Next, Mammootty will join the set of Adipidi Joseum Indulekhayum, an action-comedy entertainer directed by Vysakh. Anjana Jayaprakash, known for Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum, plays the female lead in the film, for which Anbariv are roped in as stunt choreographers. Upcoming releases of Mammootty include Bazooka and Bramayugam, which is expected to hit the theatres early next year.
