Mammootty’s latest release Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam got a grand release in GCC countries, courtesy its overseas distributor. In fact, it’s probably the first time that the megastar’s movie had almost the same number of theatres in GCC as it had in Kerala.

The movie, which is helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, released in 102 theatres across the Middle East with it being screened in 47 theatres in the United Arab Emirates, six theatres in Bahrain, 10 in Qatar, 15 in Oman, two in Kuwait and 22 cinema halls in Saudi Arabia.

In comparison, the movie only released in 122 theatres across Kerala, which is relatively lower than previous Mammootty-starrers. This might have to do with the movie being a mix of Malayalam and Tamil. The film is also playing in the USA from January 19.

The film also released in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and in North India. However, the Tamil Nadu release for the film, which was highly-anticipated, has been delayed.

Dulquer Salmaan, whose Wayfarer Films is distributing the movie, in reply to a social media user about its release date in Tamil Nadu, tweeted, “Sometimes these are decided based on availability of screens. Hoping to release within a week.”

The movie, which is scripted by S Hareesh and has Theni Easwar as its cinematographer, revolves around a group of Malayali theatre artistes who are returning from Velankanni to Kerala. Mammootty’s character James asks the driver to halt at a village in Tamil Nadu and begins to behave like another man, Sundaram, who had gone missing sometime ago. This leaves everyone with James and those in the village worried.

Mammootty has also produced the movie under his banner Mammootty Kampany. Apart from the megastar, the film also has Remya Pandian, Ashokan and Poo Ram as part of its cast.
