Megastar Mammootty will be hoping to cap off a brilliant year with one of his best performances. The actor took to his social media page on Wednesday to announce his next theatrical release in 2022 – Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam.
The film, which marks the first collaboration between the Jallikattu director and Mammootty, is set to also be screened in the competition section at the International Film Festival of Kerala next month. While the makers will be eyeing a December release for the film, this has not been officially announced.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which is also produced by Mammootty, is scripted by S Hareesh and also has Ramya Pandian, Ashokan, Geethi Sangeetha, Chethan Jayalal, Rajesh Sharma and Kainakary Thankaraj in pivotal roles. The movie was entirely shot in Palani, Tamil Nadu, with it going on floors last year.
There have been several rumours about the storyline of the film including Mammootty essaying the role of a thief and also about his character being possessed by a ghost of a resident in the village, where his bus stops while others are taking a siesta. However, the makers are yet to reveal anything about the film apart from its teasers that show some interesting snippets of Mammootty’s performance in the movie.
Meanwhile, the megastar has had a stellar 2022, beginning with the blockbuster Bheeshma Parvam, which went on to become his highest grossing film ever. He followed it up with the much-awaited CBI 5: The Brain and then made his OTT debut with Sony LIV’s critically acclaimed Puzhu. His latest release Rorschach, which was also produced by Mammootty Kampany, also scored big at the box office. The latter, which was helmed by Nissam Basheer, is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
He has also completed shooting for the Telugu movie Agent and B Unnikrishnan’s Christopher. Mammootty is currently filming Jeo Baby’s Kaathal – The Core, which has Jyothika as the female lead.
