It seems that Mammootty-starrer Rorschach will give the Onam season a miss this year. The movie, helmed by Nissam Basheer, was initially set to hit theatres on September 7, which incidentally is also Mammootty’s birthday, but recent reports suggest that the thriller won’t release due to an already crowded week.
Rorschach, which is also produced by Mammootty under his new banner Mammootty Kampany, had wrapped up its principal photography last month in Dubai and the makers are busy with its post production. But with as much as six releases already scheduled this Onam season, the Mammootty-starrer might delay its release by two weeks.
This makes Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Gold, which is helmed by Alphonse Puthren and also has Nayanthara in the lead, the biggest release of the festive season. It’s the Premam filmmaker’s comeback film after a gap of seven years and Alphonse had a few days ago confirmed that the dark comedy will release on Onam. Produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, the film has an ensemble cast featuring Vinay Forrt, Deepti Sati, Lalu Alex, Jagadish, Roshan Mathew and Chemban Vinod Jose.
Meanwhile, director Vinayan has also announced that his historical drama Pathonpathaam Noottaandu, which has Siju Wilson and Kayadu Lohar in the lead, will also release on Thiruvonam day on September 8. This is also the day that Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case will hit theatres. The latter, which marks the directorial debut of Bro Daddy scriptwriter N Sreejith, also has Roshan Mathew, Nimisha Sajayan and Padmapriya in the lead roles.
Other big releases during the festive season are Nivin Pauly’s socio-political drama Padavettu and Basil Joseph’s Paaltu Jaanwar, which is directed by debutant P Sangeeth and also has Indrans, Dileesh Pothan and a cow in a pivotal role. Padavettu is set to hit theatres on September 2.
