Malayalam actor Mamukkoya, known for his performances in movies such as Nadodikkattu and Ramji Rao Speaking, passed away at a private hospital in Kozhikode on Wednesday. He was aged 76.

The actor was admitted to the hospital on Monday, after collapsing on a football field in Malappuram. He was immediately transported to a private hospital in Kozhikode and was undergoing treatment. He had suffered a heart attack.

Mamukkoya left an indelible mark in Malayalam cinema through his humour-oriented and character roles in movies such as Nadodikkattu, Ramji Rao Speaking, Mazhavilkavadi, Pradeshika Varthakal and Thalayana Manthram.

He was active in the theatre circuit in Kozhikode and made his entry to films through Anyarude Bhoomi in 1979. Since then, he has acted in over 100 movies and had won a Special Mention for his performance in Perumazhakkalam and Best Comedian award in Kerala State Film Awards in 2004 and 2008, respectively.

The actor was recently seen in a pivotal role in Ashraf Hamza’s Sulaikha Manzil, which had released during Eid last week. Mamukkoya made his OTT debut with a brilliant performance in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kuruthi in 2021, in which he played the role of Moosa Khader. He has also acted in a few upcoming movies including Footage and Nancy Rani.

Mamukkoya’s roles such as Usman in Daiva Sahayam Lucky Centre, Hamsakoya in Ramji Rao Speaking, Raghavan Nair in Gajakesariyogam and Gafoorka in Nadodikattu are amongst the most noted humorous characters in Malayalam cinema. He has acted in a few Tamil movies and was also part of a French movie titled Flammens of Paradise.
