Mani Ratnam moves quickly past Thug Life; Dhruv Vikram-Rukmini Vasanth film to go on floors soon

Director Mani Ratnam, whose latest release Thug Life did not fare well, has begun working on his next. It will be starring actor Dhruv Vikram, whose father and actor Vikram has collaborated with the filmmaker multiple times. As per DT Next, the film is set to begin shooting in November, with an official announcement on the project yet to be made.

Director Mani Ratnam’s forte has always been love stories and human dramas. Back to his comfort zone, the veteran filmmaker is set to mount his next project, which will feature actors Dhruv Vikram and Rukmini Vasanth in the lead roles.

With the film in its scripting stages, as per a DT Next report, the project will have Dhruv Vikram play the lead role. The report mentioned that the young actor and filmmaker have met a few times, with the film set to go on floors from November. It is speculated that the yet-to-be-titled project will be a romantic actioner with Dhruv playing a cop. Kannada actor Rukmini Vasanth, who made her Tamil debut with Ace, will be playing the female lead, with Mani Ratnam working again with his close collaborator AR Rahman for music. Mani Ratnam and his team are yet to officially announce the film.

While it is the first time for both Dhruv and Rukmini to work with Mani Ratnam, the former’s father and actor Vikram has teamed up with the filmmaker in Ponniyin Selvan duology and Raavanan.

Dhruv Vikram’s Bison gears up for Diwali release?

Dhruv Vikram’s next release is sports drama Bison, which will hit big screens for Diwali on October 17. Directed by Mari Selvaraj and circling on kabbadi sports, the film also features Lal, Pasupathy, Kalaiyarasan, Rajisha Vijayan, Hari Krishnan, Azhagam Perumal and Aruvi Madhan among others. Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical rights of the film.
