Manish Malhotra’s The Bridal Couture Show: Celebrity drape artist Dolly Jain talks about draping Alia Bhatt and the BTS action

Just before the grand release of Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Alia Bhatt, and Ranveer Singh set the ramp on fire with their dazzling entry at Manish Malhotra’s The Bridal Couture Show on Thursday. With Bollywood A-listers, including Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar, Kajol, and others on the front row, Alia and Ranveer flaunted delicate threadwork in Manish’s creation. 

Meanwhile, it is celebrity drape artist Dolly Jain, who was in charge of the draping of all the 80-odd female models and diva of the night, showstopper, Alia Bhatt. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Dolly gave a sneak peek of the backstage. “It is always chaotic and hectic at the backstage of any elaborate show like this. So many models and so many costumes – it is a lot of work. But when it is all done and when you hear the roar of applause, you feel satisfied,” she said.

What was the brief that she got from the designer? “Around 10 years ago, I used to get briefs. By God’s grace, now designers trust me. Manish handed me the costumes and told me that he trusted me,” Dolly told us. 

Dolly has a long relationship with Alia as she also draped the actress’ wedding finery. At the Thursday show, Alia wore a long veil with the bridal outfit. How was she at the show? “Alia admires my work. We know each other for a long time. I aimed to make her comfortable and do justice to the designer’s work. I believe that is done,” said the drape artist.
