Actor Vimal has announced that he will once again work with Rajkiran and N. Raghavan for the sequel to his hit film Manjapai. Manjapai, released in 2014, had Vimal and Rajkiran playing a grandson and grandpa respectively.

Vimal was cast as Tamil, an IT company employee who aspires to reach greater heights and go abroad. Venkatasamy, played by Rajkiran, plays a grandfather who has taken care of him since childhood. The movie mirrors the clash between urban and rural cultures. Lakshmi Menon plays Karthika in the film.

Manja Pai or ‘yellow bag’ is a term loosely used for villagers residing in a city and depicts them as uncultured or illiterate. The title is a reference to Rajkiran’s character in the film. Manjapai ends with an open-ended climax where Tamil finds a deluded Venkatasamy who has lost his mind after getting insulted by his grandson. The audience will have to wait and see what happens next.

Rajkiran has always been selective about his choices across his 30-year-career in the Tamil film industry. He last played a godfather in the Malayalam movie Shylock starring Mammootty in the lead role.

Vimal became noticed in the industry after his hit film Kalavani, starring him and Oviya in lead roles.
