Manju Warrier and Soubin Shahir are part of two extremely different films this year. While the duo will first be seen together in Santosh Sivan’s sci-fi entertainer Jack N Jill, they are also sharing screen space in debutant Mahesh Vettiyaar’s Vellari Pattanam.

The movie’s first look poster was released by Mammootty on Saturday and featured its lead stars. The film, which was initially titled Vellarikkapattanam seems to have changed its title to Vellari Pattanam after another film had been registered in that name.

The poster hints at a comedy entertainer set against a rural backdrop. The protagonists are seen smiling in the first look poster of the film that is again a far cry from its title poster that had the two actors at each other’s throats.

Mahesh had earlier co-directed an animation film in 2012 titled Swami Ayyappan. The filmmaker had revealed that the movie is a family entertainer that has a rooted story and is told through humour. “It’s a social satire set in the contemporary era,” he told Kochi Times.

He has also co-scripted the movie along with Sarath Krishna. The film had completed shooting last year and is expected to release in June 2022. The makers, however, are yet to officially announce its release date. The film, which also has Shabareesh Varma, Kottayam Ramesh, Krishna Sankar and Veena Nair, was shot in and around Alappuzha.

Meanwhile, Manju’s next release will be Santosh Sivan’s Jack N Jill, which is set to hit theatres on May 20. The multi-starrer, which had wrapped up production before the pandemic, has Manju playing the lead role. Soubin, Kalidas Jayaram, Basil Joseph, Shaylee Krishen, Aju Varghese and Indrans are also part of the fun entertainer, which is narrated by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The movie’s Tamil version titled Centimeter also has Yogi Babu in a pivotal character.
