It was almost as if Manoj Bajpayee had stepped into 1998 when he returned to the set of Ram Gopal Varma. In that year, the actor's breakthrough came with the release of the cult classic Satya, in which he had his first collaboration with the filmmaker. Shool (1999), Kaun? (1999), and Sarkar 3 (2017) are just a few of the important projects that the actor-filmmaker combo have worked on together since then.
After being apart for eight years, Bajpayee shared his feelings about collaborating with Varma again. In an interview with Mid Day, the actor said, "He is the same old magician, still weaving magic. I was the same young guy, still in awe of his craft of filmmaking. I was like a little boy standing in a candy store."
Both Bajpayee and Varma now bring decades of experience to the table, and the actor acknowledges how their approach to filmmaking has evolved. He reflected, "Earlier, I did not have much to say to anyone. But now, I’ve aged, as has Ramu. All of us have gone through many ups and downs in our lives and careers. With that, we’ve all gained wisdom. So now, whatever he says, I try to grasp it; I try to understand his vision."
Their newest joint effort, Police Station Mein Bhoot, is an action comedy that combines mystical aspects with comedy. An upright police officer who takes down a criminal and then becomes possessed by him is the protagonist of the film, which co-stars Genelia Deshmukh. "Everything is challenging," Bajpayee replied when asked if this job was particularly difficult for him. He added, "Acting itself is difficult. Sadly, in our country, it’s regarded as the easiest thing. It’s a serious craft. But here, because everything is box office–orientated."
The first schedule of the film took a little over a week to finish, and now the unit is taking a break. Bajpayee announced that filming will pick up again towards the month's end of October. He also stated, "From October to November will be a start-to-finish schedule in Hyderabad. Let me finish the film. Then I’ll have a lot to say."
With Police Station Mein Bhoot, fans of both Ram Gopal Varma and Manoj Bajpayee are keeping a careful eye on the reunion of the two filmmakers. This supernatural action comedy is touted to be one of the most anticipated releases in Bollywood, thanks to the huge expectations raised by their combined successful films.
