Manoj Bharathiraja was launched with this 1999 Tamil romantic drama Taj Mahal. The film is directed by his father and veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, with a script by Mani Ratnam. Manoj made his debut alongside Riya Sen and the ensemble cast includes Revathi, Manivannan, Manobala, Radhika and Ranjitha. Taj Mahal is set in a village backdrop, and tells the story of two young lovers who are caught between community clashes. AR Rahman’s music is one of the talking points of the film.
