After making the audience wait for almost two years, the makers of Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham have released a teaser of the movie, which is set to hit cinema halls across the world on December 2.

The teaser, which was released on Saina Movies’ YouTube channel, was a short clip but promised the massive scale at which the story will be told. The video also showed the battle sequences - both on land and at sea - that will be the main showcase of the film. It ends with a glimpse of Mohanlal's Kunjali Marakkar IV as he goes head to head with a Portuguese general.

The film's director Priyadarshan had promised that the movie's VFX and battle sequences are on par with international films and easily the best in Indian cinema. From the teaser, it's hard to argue, considering that the movie is made on a budget of Rs 100 crore and won the National Award for Best Feature Film this year.

Marakkar revolves around the Zamorin naval chieftain Kunjali Marakkar IV’s reign in the final years of the 16th century when he along with his troops waged battles at sea against the powerful Portuguese forces. The film has Mohanlal in the lead role, with Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Prabhu and Malaysian actor Jay J Jakkrit as Chinali playing characters who are part of his fleet.

The film, directed by Priyadarshan, is touted to be the most expensive Malayalam movie ever, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 90 crore. While its producer Antony Perumbavoor had announced that the movie would be heading for a direct-to-OTT release, the intervention by the government along with theatre owners urged the makers to opt back for a theatrical release for the movie.

Marakkar also has Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashok Selvan and Keerthy Suresh in pivotal roles. The movie’s art direction is by National Award-winning production designer Sabu Cyril. Priyadarshan’s son Siddharth, who was in charge of the VFX for the movie, won State and National awards for his work in the film.

The team is expected to release four more teasers and a trailer ahead of the movie’s theatrical run.
