Mohanlal’s next release Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham has been chasing records. The movie, directed by Priyadarshan is touted to be the most expensive Malayalam movie ever, and now the makers have released an advertisement stating that the film has already crossed Rs 100 crore before its release. 

Mohanlal shared the post that claimed that Marakkar is the first Indian movie to have entered Rs 100 crore club through reservations alone. The film will reportedly be shown in 4,100 screens in 16,000 shows across the world in five languages. 

Marakkar, which was initially set to release in theatres in March 2020, has been long delayed due to the pandemic. The makers at point also considered an OTT release, but decided against it keeping in mind the scale at which the period film is mounted.

As of now, Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup hold the record for best opening day figures for a Malayalam movie. Marakkar will be hoping to beat it with its fans shows beginning as early 12:01 am on December 1 followed by shows at 3:30am and 7am. 

The movie, which spans several decades, has Mohanlal playing Kunjali Marakkar IV. The movie follows the reign of the fourth Marakkar, the title given to Zamorin naval chief, as he and his forces wage war against the invading Portuguese troops. 

The film, which won three National Film Awards including the Best Feature Film and Best VFX, has a stellar cast including Keerthy Suresh, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja and Pranav Mohanlal, who plays the younger version of Mohanlal’s Kunjali Marakkar IV.
