Malayalam actor Basil Joseph has been on a roll lately. The actor, who has already had three releases this year including Ponman and Pravinkoodu Shappu , was most recently seen in Tovino Thomas’ co-production Maranamass, which is all set to begin streaming soon.

The movie, helmed by Sivaprasad and scripted by actor Siju Sunny, had hit in theatres on April 10 as part of the Vishu releases along with Mammootty’s Bazooka and Naslen’s Alappuzha Gymkhana. Apart from Basil, the film also has Suresh Krishna, Rajesh Madhavan, Siju and Anishma Anilkumar in lead roles.

The dark comedy revolves around a group of people who find themselves in a tricky situation inside a bus with a body and a serial killer. How they plan to dispose of the body and ward off the threat of the killer on the loose forms the plot.

But what makes Maranamass truly entertaining are its quirky characters. Basil essays the role of a toxic social media influencer, who hounds his ex after she rejects him. Suresh Krishna and Siju Sunny play a bus driver and conductor, respectively – but their plight is amplified in the comedy as the former is all set to get married soon, while the conductor is still in search of his father, who had abandoned him when he was a child. Amid all this is a serial killer, who murders elderly people and stuffs a banana inside their mouths. As cops run helter-skelter to find the elusive killer, the motley crew have to get rid of a body.

Is Basil Joseph the first choice for dark comedies?

Incidentally, this is the third black comedy that Basil has been part of in the past one year. He had earlier starred in Jeethu Joseph’s Nunakkuzhi and Sreeraj Sreenivasan’s Pravinkoodu Shappu. The latter was also bagged by Sony LIV, which is all set to begin streaming Bromance from May 1. You can watch Bromance, Pravinkoodu Shappu and Maranamass with OTTplay Premium subscription.
