Basil Joseph has emerged to be one of the most versatile actors in Malayalam within a short period of time. The Minnal Murali director has effortlessly slipped into the lead hero role, shouldering a film throughout. His latest film Maranamass is yet another example that the Janeman star can pull off any character. Basil Joseph plays a social media influencer Luke PP and in a recent interview, he sought to decode the role and how every Gen Z person does not behave like this.
Basil Joseph on Maranamass' role
The actor is once again winning praise for his quirky performance as the zany youth Luke PP. In an interview with Cinema Express, Basil Joseph spoke about Luke being a ‘bit of a caricature’, and how the writing and making style gave it a loud, over-the-top tone.
While pointing out that the trickiest part of his role was getting the meter right, Basil said, "If we pushed it too far, it could’ve ended up being unappealing or too distracting. Also, since real Gen Z folks might not behave like Luke, we took the satire route."

Maranamass revolves around Luke PP, who calls himself a sigma male and has become a headache for his village with his outlandish activities. When news about a serial killer emerges, everyone suspects Luke of being the criminal. But one fateful night, Luke finds himself on a bus with his girlfriend, the serial killer, a corpse, a bus conductor and driver. The film, penned by Siju Sunny, gives a fun twist to the grim plot of serial killing. Rajesh Madhavan plays the serial killer, Anishma Anilkumar is Luke's love interest, Suresh Krishna and Siju Sunny are the bus staff, while Babu Antony is seen as a tough cop
