After proving his mettle as a director with just three films, Basil Joseph went on to pursue acting and showed that he is brilliant in the acting department as well. His latest film Maranamass, directed by Sivaprasad, recently made its digital premiere on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium. But the film is getting mixed responses from audiences. Amid this, Basil Joseph has opened up about what made him say yes to Maranamass, which the makers have classified as a dark comedy.
Basil Joseph stars as Luke PP, a self-proclaimed ‘sigma’ male, in this film, which centres around a serial killer. In a recent interview with The Hindu, Basil Joseph revealed as to what made him say yes to the film, which is co-produced by his Minnal Murali star and frequent collaborator Tovino Thomas.
“This movie happened mainly because of the relationships and familiarity I have with the team,” explained Basil, who has starred in movies such as Pravinkoodu Shappu and Jan. E. Man. But he was also quick to add that he found the story and the serial killer setting interesting.
Basil’s Luke does eccentric actions such as putting up the police station for sale on OLX and setting fire to the school staff room to ‘help’ the students. “The one line of the story was the hook for me,” he further added.
Apart from Basil Joseph, the film stars Rajesh Madhavan as serial killer SK. Anishma Anilkumar plays his girlfriend Jessy who breaks up with Luke after people suspect him of being a serial killer. Suresh Krishna and Siju Sunny play the bus driver and bus conductor. Maranmass follows Luke as he ends up in a bus along with the serial killer, his girlfriend, a corpse, the bus conductor and driver. The zany performances of the cast and quirky storyline drive this film.
