Marathi actor Umakant Patil, who has worked in films like Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawaan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, will step into the Bengali film industry. Dr Swarnayu Maitra, a doctor by profession who has earlier made some short films and documentaries, is set with his directorial debut for feature-length films. Umakant will play the hero in Swarnayu’s film Bhamini. He was seen in Rohit Shetty's cop universe drama Sooryavanshi and Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus also. The actor said that he is learning the Bengali language to work in the film.

On the other hand, Priyanka Sarkar will play the female lead in the film. Director-actor Tathagata Mukherjee will play her on-screen boyfriend. Tathagata is elated to get the offer. His film Pariah has recently crossed 50 days. Sandip Bhattacharya, Chanda Karanji, and a group of theatre actors from Balurghat will also be in the film. The shooting will be in Balurghat. Sandip Sarkar from Onkar Films is the producer. The film tells the story of a woman's struggle, who is a Gamira dance artist in north Bengal, in a backdrop of mystery.

The film delves into the life of Suhita – a professor. Three girls, Baha, Munni, and Megha live at her place and run a dance group. Under that cover of Gamira dance, they fight against social injustice. In the town, a clinical trial starts with human Papillomavirus, which is illegal. It kills many underage girls. Suhita and her team fight against this with the help of her boyfriend and colleague Kamal and Special Branch police officer Indra. Can they trace the gang's head? Priyanka Sarkar plays Suhita and is now going through Gamira dance training. Umakant plays the cop.

The director said, “This is a woman-centric crime thriller. This will also portray north Bengal's interior villages, people's life there, and the Dinajpur dance Gamira.” Umakant is excited and a bit scared since this is his first film in a different language. He said, “I heard my friends speaking in Bengali but I never spoke it. Hence I am scared. But I am tempted to overcome the challenge and prove myself. Hence I did not think for a second time when I got the offer.”
