Finally, after a long wait, this year Valentine's Day is set to be a Violence Day, thanks to Marco OTT release. Yes, the Malayalam neo-noir action thriller starring Unni Mukundan in the titular role is set to stream on SonyLIV (OTTplay Premium) beginning February 14, 2025. Along with the Malayalam original, the film will be streaming in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu dubbed versions. However, netizens were quick to point out that, despite having a Hindi-dubbed version perform exceedingly well at the box office, it didn't get its OTT window.
One of the netizens commented on SonyLIV's post, "Hindi Dubbed bhi karo OTT par Release." While another wrote, "Hindi version, OTT release date, please." One netizen went on to ask, "Hindi me marco."
Check out a few reactions below:
Reports indicate that SonyLIV lacks the rights for the Hindi version.
Produced by Cubes Entertainments and with a screenplay by Haneef Adeni, Mukundan is joined in supporting parts by Jagadish, Anson Paul, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abhimanyu S. Thilakan, and Yukti Thareja. While Chandru Selvaraj shot the film and Shameer Muhammed edited it, Ravi Basrur created the score.
In Marco, the Adattu family is well-known in Kerala as a prominent gold trader. An enigmatic event shocks the Adattu family. The patriarch of the family, George, decides to find out what happened and who was guilty. Marco, his younger brother, sets out on a similar mission, except he takes a different route. This is the core of Marco, a dramatic thriller characterised by fierceness and violence.
The 2019 film Mikhael serves as a jumping-off point for this spinoff, while the two films are unrelated and merely feature a different cast of characters from the original.
The global premiere of Marco took place on Christmas Eve, 2024. It became the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film of all time, the sixth highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year, and the ninth highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, and it was much-deservedly praised by critics and viewers alike.
After beating The Goat Life (2024) and 2018 (2023) in the Hindi-speaking region, the Hindi version of the film became the highest-grossing Malayalam dubbed film with ₹5 crore as of January 03, 2025. With ₹40 crore from Kerala, ₹20 crore from ROI, and ₹31 crore from overseas, the total worldwide gross collection reaches ₹91 crore in just 17 days. The film's worldwide gross was between ₹104 and ₹115 crore as of January 12, 2025.
The film ends with a tease of a future sequel. The sequel, which Haneef Adeni confirmed, will reportedly have more bloodshed and action than the first film.
