Made on a budget of Rs 30 Cr, Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan’s violent action-thriller Marco has already become the talk of the town – not just in the South film industries, but also Bollywood, with reports suggesting that theatre exhibitors are mulling to replace Varun Dhawan’s Baby John with the Hindi version of the Haneef Adeni directorial.
Unni, who was in Mumbai on Saturday to promote the movie, talked to the media about the possible Bollywood collaborations, including one with Hrithik Roshan, that he is interested in along with what the film has already achieved.
The film’s Hindi version has been doing phenomenal business, with it already grossing Rs 50 lakh – the highest ever for the Hindi-dubbed version of a Malayalam movie. Its overall collection after Day 9 stands at Rs 64 Cr worldwide, as per industry trackers.
On being asked whom he would like to work with in Bollywood, Unni said, “I would like to collaborate with all the actors, because everyone is doing good work. In our film, we have a Bollywood actor (Kabir Duhan Singh). I hope I get to work with all of them as well as the directors.”
However, the actor, who was also part of Tamil hit Garudan earlier this year, picked Hrithik Roshan as his “favourite Bollywood action hero”. “I have grown up watching a lot of action films, and my favourite actors are action heroes. For instance, if I meet Hrithik Roshan during my trip to Mumbai, my purpose here is complete,” he said, adding, “My wish is to direct a film with Hrithik Roshan. Someday I will get it done.”
For the uninitiated, Malayalam actor Unni had started his career as the assistant director to Lohithadas, before making his debut with Dhanush-starrer Seedan. The actor had also assisted in scriptwriter-director Sethu’s Mammootty film Oru Kuttanadan Blog in 2018.
Meanwhile, Unni also praised his co-stars for the success of the film, which also has Kabir Duhan Singh and Yukti Thareja. “I believe when you do something, you will have to get involved in it completely. I think my entire team including the director and co-stars believed that. If you think my performance was good in the movie, it’s because everyone else was also great in it as it’s interdependent,” he said.

The actor also explained that this is the usual practice in a Malayalam film. “We have Mohanlal sir from our industry, and he has set a high benchmark. If we do something even remotely close to what he has done, people will appreciate it,” he said.
Unni also dismissed comparisons of Marco with other Bollywood action movies such as Animal and Kill. “We don’t make films to compete or compare with other movies,” he said, adding that he was a huge fan of both movies. “My team and I are just happy that our small film is travelling far,” Unni concluded.
