When Vijay Kartikeyaa made his debut film, Max, it was a no-frills thriller that told the story of events happening in one night at a police station. That experience, he’d said, gave him an insight into what fans of leading man Kiccha Sudeep wanted to see on the big screen. For his next script, which was initially rumoured to be for Max 2, but then turned out to be Mark, he’d said he’d added a lot more whistle-worthy mass elevations that fans would enjoy.

How did Kiccha Sudeep's Mark fare at the box office?

However, when the film came out, the reaction was not what the team was expecting. Mark had a good opening on Day 1, grossing a little over Rs 10 cr, despite a box office clash with the multi-starrer 45. But the very next day, it fell by over 60% and never really recovered, clocking similar figures over the first weekend, after which collections were in freefall. The film’s Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions also failed to click and barely contributed to the box office.

By the end of week 2, most trackers had given up on both the Kannada Christmas releases. According to sacnilk, Mark had grossed Rs 32.16 cr after two weeks in theatres. Independent box office tracker Jerin Georgekutty estimates that this had not changed much by Day 22, with the world-wide gross said to be Rs 34.94 cr, against a rumoured Rs 40 cr budget.

The film, meanwhile, will be on JioHotstar (via OTTplay Premium also), as of January 23, 2026, in yet another clash with 45 (Arjun Janya’s film is headed to Zee5/OTTplay Premium). And for a double dose of Sudeep, fans can then tune in to JioHotstar for the Celebrity Cricket League, with the actor’s team, the Karnataka Bulldozers scheduled to play their second match of the tournament on January 23.

Mark, starring a massive ensemble cast including Guru Somasundaram, Naveen Chandra, Yogi Babu, Vikranth, Deepshikha, Roshni Prakash, Archana Kottige, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Shine Tom Chacko, Dragon Manju, Pratap Narayan, Mahantesh Hiremath, Krishnapriya. The film features music by Ajaneesh Loknath, with Sudeep yet again in cop mode.
