The screenplay for the Telugu remake was penned by filmmaker Venkatesh Maha, who has also played a key role in the movie.
Judging from the trailer, it seems Martin Luther King is a frame-by-frame remake of Mandela. Director Puja Kolluru and screenwriter Venkatesh Maha seemed to have remained very loyal to Madonne Ashwin's vision.
Martin Luther King examines the powers of democracy and the role of citizens in harnessing them for the betterment of the country. The central character of this film is a village slave. He has no name or identity that allows him to access the benefits of being a citizen of a constitutional republic. The nameless man's life takes a dramatic turn when he is named after one of the world leaders known for his role in emancipating the oppressed and the downtrodden: Martin Luther King.
With name comes the right to vote and the power to bring a lasting effect to the society. The film emphasises the importance and power of voting rights and the duty of every citizen to use them without fear or favour to keep the country from falling into the hands of the wrong people.
Besides Sampoornesh Babu, Martin Luther King also stars Naresh, Sharanya Pradeep and Goparaju Ramana.
